Hemp Extract - CBD Foods FAQ

We are fortunate to live and make FishSki Provisions’ foods in Colorado at the world epicenter of Hemp - CBD foods. We believe hemp should be treated as any other food. Hemp is a plant ingredient and should be enjoyed like any other superfood. Like our chiles, grits, pasta, spices, and cheeses we use only the best ingredients available; and for our CBD foods we stick to that core value. FishSki Provisions uses the highest quality US grown hemp available.

What is CBD and What Are Its Effects?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of the two most prominent molecules found in the cannabis plant. But unlike the other more well-known cannabinoid: THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD doesn’t have any psychoactive properties. Different than THC, CBD does not make a person feel “stoned” or intoxicated. This is because CBD and THC act in different ways on different receptors in the brain and body. CBD is a superfood that stimulates your endocannabinoid receptors and has potential to promote health across your body.

We, at FishSki, enjoy a CBD meal after a long day outside being active: skiing, hiking, or rafting. We also occasionally eat CBD foods to help calm us on the stressful days running our small business. We’ve found that CBD effects everyone differently and why you would eat hemp foods is personal to you. Due to federal regulations, we cannot make claims about the benefits of CBD and we cannot point you toward specific research. However, there is a ton of information online about CBD’s possible benefits. We encourage you to do your own research on the benefits of hemp extract and find out if it is a super food for you.

The Hemp We Use

We use only US-grown industrial hemp that is farmed outdoors under natural sunlight. We try to use as much Colorado grown hemp as possible, however recent demand has outstripped supply and we supplement our Colorado hemp with Montana, Oregon, and Kentucky grown hemp. All the hemp we use is non-GMO and pesticide free. Our hemp is grown under organic practices but has not been certified by the USDA as organic.

Hemp extract – CBD isolate is an oil that’s extracted from the whole hemp plant. Our Isolate CBD is CO2 extracted, which requires absolutely no nasty solvents like butane to produce. Further, the isolate contains no preservatives or additives – just natural CBD hemp oil. It is the best quality CBD isolate available.

Are Hemp Extract Foods Legal

Yes, hemp extract – CBD foods are legal for purchase and shipping to all 50 states. A 2004 unanimous ruling by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, determined that the US DEA “cannot regulate naturally-occurring THC not contained within or derived from marijuana, i.e., non-psychoactive hemp is not included in Schedule I… The DEA has no authority to regulate drugs that are not scheduled.” Further, the 2014 US Farm Bill classified industrial hemp as containing less than 0.3% THC. All our hemp extract foods are produced with industrial hemp and contain less than 0.3% THC. As such, we are allowed by US Federal law to ship to your doorstep.

Isolate v Full Spectrum

Our 99% CBD Isolate is pure isolated CBD. Full Spectrum products contain additional cannabinoids besides just CBD. There is a strong debate about whether “isolate” or “full-spectrum” is "better". Our opinion is we enjoy the consistent effects of CBD isolate. Further, full-spectrum extracts invariably contain low levels of THC. To play it safe, CBD isolate contains no THC. We cannot make any claims on whether any of our foods will show up on a drug test. However, in using CBD isolate we can assure you our products have no detectable THC. Finally, we’ve found that the flavor of CBD isolate is preferable in our foods to full spectrum extracts.

Third Party Tested

It seems like you can find hemp extract/CBD a lot of places nowadays. Not all hemp extract is created equal. We are confident we use the best CBD isolate available, and as such all our CBD isolate is third party tested. Please take a look here for further verification of potency and purity.

Everyone has different sensitivities: Just like the spice in the Chile we use, CBD effects different people different way. Each bag of FishSki CBD foods contains 35 mg of CBD. We suggest starting with the suggested serving size: half a bag per person as each bag contains two servings. Share the other half of the bag for dinner with a family member or friend!

Why is CBD More Expensive Than Your Non-CBD Products

We strongly believe that hemp extract should be regularly used as an ingredient in foods. Everyone should have access to the best quality, fairly priced hemp derived CBD. We want all to enjoy hemp derived CBD foods. As such we make every attempt to keep our prices as low as possible for our CBD foods. However, for now, high quality hemp extract is in limited supply and as a result is an expensive ingredient. Further because of government ambiguity in how to regulate CBD we must pay extra for banking and other business services. We look forward to the near future when hemp extract foods cost the same as all other gourmet and specialty foods.
